Announcing New Website Supporting Brownsboro Road Sidewalk

The Kentucky Council of the Blind first called for sidewalks along the north side of Brownsboro Road between Ewing and Haldeman Avenues in Louisville in 1976. Nearby neighborhoods and Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh became heavily involved in the reconfiguration of the street and the sidewalk project 13 years ago.

Now work is ready to begin and some businesses have decided that they don't want traffic to slow down or pedestrians to have a sidewalk to their doors.

Welcome to the GLCB Website

The Greater Louisville Council of the Blind is a chapter of the Kentucky Council of the Blind. GLCB has blind, visually impaired, and sighted members in Jefferson and Oldham counties, Clark and Floyd counties in southern Indiana, and throughout the metropolitan Louisville area.

The Greater Louisville Council of the Blind works for equality and independence for all people with vision loss. GLCB advocates for quality education for blind children and youth, expanded training and job opportunities for visually impaired adults, improved services for seniors over age 60 who are just losing their vision, and better public transportation for people who cannot drive.

GLCB supports issues that touch all blind and visually impaired people, such as:

GLCB encourages people who are just losing their vision to participate in community meetings and activities that provide peer support. Family members are also encouraged to attend so they can learn about blindness and visual impairment and discover how people with vision loss handle activities of daily living.
